Building Tomorrow: Pakistan-Africa Investment in Minerals, Agriculture, Real Estate & Construction

The final session of the PAK-AFRICA Trade Conference 2026's afternoon programme brings together the most capital-intensive, long-horizon investment sectors of the day. Minerals and mining, agricultural development, real estate, and construction are the sectors that literally build nations โ€” they extract wealth from the earth, feed populations, house growing urban communities, and create the physical infrastructure upon which all other economic activity depends.

Africa is extraordinarily endowed in all of these dimensions: it holds 30% of the world's mineral reserves, 60% of the world's arable land that remains uncultivated, the world's fastest-growing urban populations driving massive real estate demand, and a construction sector expected to grow to over $300 billion annually by 2030. Pakistan brings capital, technical expertise, construction capability, and agricultural technology that can partner with Africa's natural endowments to create exceptional returns for investors on both sides.

"Africa has the resources. Pakistan has the expertise to extract, process, and build with them. This is the partnership that creates generational wealth โ€” not just for investors, but for the African and Pakistani nations and communities involved."

Note on Session Structure: Due to the breadth of topics covered, this session is divided into two sub-tracks: Mines & Minerals (mediated by Captain Taimoor) and Real Estate & Construction (mediated by Captain Taimoor alongside Kareem Adia). Ismail Suttar, Ali Ahsan Rind, Ibrahim Shahanshah, and Captain Taimoor cover the minerals and mining agenda, while Kareem Adia anchors the real estate and construction discussion.

Africa's Mineral Wealth: The Opportunity of the Century

The SADC region sits atop some of the world's most significant mineral deposits: platinum and palladium in South Africa (which holds over 80% of global reserves), copper in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia, diamonds in Botswana and Zimbabwe, lithium in Zimbabwe and the DRC, chromium in South Africa and Zimbabwe, and manganese in South Africa and Gabon. These are not just historical commodities โ€” they are precisely the minerals required for the global transition to clean energy, electric vehicles, and advanced electronics.

Pakistani investors and mining companies bring capital, technical expertise, and โ€” through CPEC-linked Chinese partnerships โ€” access to the world's most advanced mineral processing technology. This combination makes Pakistani investment in African mining a compelling proposition for both Pakistani investors seeking returns and African governments seeking partners who will add value through processing, not just extraction.

Ismail Suttar and Ali Ahsan Rind: Investment and Commercial Leadership

Ismail Suttar and Ali Ahsan Rind bring the commercial investment perspective to the mining and minerals discussion โ€” the financial structuring of mining investments, the due diligence frameworks for resource projects in African jurisdictions, the political risk management tools available to Pakistani investors, and the role of multilateral institutions like the African Development Bank and the IFC in de-risking resource investments.

Agriculture: Pakistan Meets Africa's Green Revolution

Sub-Saharan Africa has the world's largest reserve of uncultivated arable land โ€” an estimated 600 million hectares of farmable land not currently under cultivation. Pakistan's agricultural sector, with decades of experience in irrigation technology, seed development, crop protection, and agriprocessing under challenging climatic conditions, has directly applicable expertise for African agricultural development.

  • Pakistani drip and sprinkler irrigation technology, developed for water-scarce conditions, is directly applicable to African arid and semi-arid farming zones
  • Pakistani high-yield seed varieties for wheat, rice, sugarcane, and cotton can be adapted to African soil and climate conditions
  • Pakistani agriprocessing expertise โ€” rice mills, flour mills, cotton ginning, sugar processing โ€” can add value to African agricultural raw materials in-country
  • Pakistani cold chain and food storage technology can reduce Africa's enormous post-harvest losses, estimated at 40% of production

Real Estate & Construction: Pakistan Builds Africa

Africa's urbanisation is proceeding at an unprecedented rate. By 2050, African cities will add another 950 million residents โ€” creating an enormous demand for housing, commercial real estate, urban infrastructure, and construction services. Kareem Adia brings the real estate investment and development perspective to this session, exploring how Pakistani developers, construction companies, and property investors can participate in Africa's urban building boom.

Pakistani construction companies โ€” with deep experience in large-scale infrastructure projects (roads, dams, bridges, industrial estates) driven by CPEC development โ€” have the technical capability and project management experience to compete for African construction contracts. Pakistani construction expertise in affordable housing, a critical need across SADC nations, is particularly relevant given Pakistan's own mass housing programme experience.

Ibrahim Shahanshah: Bridging Investment and Development

Ibrahim Shahanshah's participation brings a holistic view of resource and construction investment โ€” integrating the financial, regulatory, and developmental dimensions of large-scale Pakistan-Africa investment projects. His insights will help frame the session's conclusions around a practical investment facilitation agenda: what agreements, institutions, and instruments are needed to translate today's conference conversations into actual Pakistan-Africa investment flows in minerals, agriculture, real estate, and construction.
